Levi - Senior Class of 2011 - Versailles HS

Levi is from Versailles High School and is in the graduating class of 2011. He is a great kid and even put on a tie to please his grandmother for some photos.
He was the first one to be photographed in front of my new truck..... Well new to me, it is a 1960 Dodge Town Panel truck. You should have seen us trying to get it out of the woods.

We will be mailing out postcards to the class of 2011 all around the lake area about our studio. Imaging USA Photography Conference

We just returned from a great ImagingUSA Photography Conference in Nashville. It was 3 days of classes and seminars to help us in our business. It was the largest conference they have ever held. About 10,000 professional photographers attended this year. The networking was great, and just to listen to others and how they run their business, what they specializes in, and ideas for the future was worth the trip.

We also had a little time to go to the Grand Ole Opry and see some great stars preform. Ricky Skaggs was at the conference showing us some of his great photography work and preformed a few songs for the crowd also. I am looking forward to next year.

It was a cold morning to start but heated up nicely. Everyone had a great time at the Lake West Chamber of Commerce Missouri State Buddy Bass Tournament. They are so cute when they are sleeping. This 2-week old was great to photograph until he got hungry. They don't stay small very long so you had better catch those moments when you can.

Weddings can be a challenge. Being at the right place at the right time, lighting, exposure, and what is in the background. The best tip I can give is to just have fun and catch the action as it happens. Anybody can take a group photograph, you need to look for the emotion and feelings. Those are your best shots.

Tips on Photographing flowers

Use a simple background
Find a position that provides a plain, non-competing background. Or place a black or pleasingly colored cardboard behind the flower.

Get close
If your camera has a close-up focusing mode, use it and get as close as the camera manual suggests. With a digital camera, use the display screen to compose the picture. Accessory close-up lenses are mandatory for dedicated flower photographers.

Shoot at different angles
Vary the level of your viewpoint. Shoot down to create attractive pinwheel patterns of daisies; kneel to the level of other flowers, such as tulips and daffodils.

Use creative lighting
Observe the lighting on your flowers. Backlighting shining through some flowers gives them an appealing glow. Cloudy-day lighting reveals subtle hues.

Control the wind
Is the wind tossing the tulip about? Bring the tulip indoors and create an attractive still life that you can easily photograph. Put the tulip in a vase and place it near a window. Or use a piece of cardboard to block the wind. Choose your camera angle so the cardboard doesn't show in the picture. Or choose a colored board and position it to block the wind and to serve as the background.

The holidays always seem to bring family together. We had a lot of fun, ate a lot of food, and took a few photos. You can never take to few of photos, just get a bigger external hard drive for your computer and back them all up.

Thanksgiving was busy around here. We had about 30 family members for a meal. Then it was time to take photos. Lots of family portrait shots both indoors and outside. You'll never guess what I am giving them for Christmas!! ;-)
